What NestEgg Health is
NestEgg Health is an exercise community for the workplace: a way to create connection and belonging at work through movement. Employees, called Eggs, join small teams of five called Nests, do any exercise they like, share their workouts and compete together in four-week NestEgg Challenges. A heart rate based scoring system and a 15 Level handicap mean a beginner and a trained athlete contribute equally to their team. NestEgg runs each Challenge end to end for the employer.
- Category
- Workplace wellbeing, employee engagement and culture. An alternative to step challenges, wellness talks, gym subsidies and individual fitness apps.
- Who buys it
- HR, People and wellbeing leaders, CEOs and founders, and benefits brokers. Typically organizations of about 100 to 5,000 people, often multi-site, with office, frontline and international teams.
- Who takes part
- Any employee with a heart rate wearable. Walkers, runners, cyclists, gym-goers, beginners and athletes all take part on equal terms.
- Format
- Four-week Challenges. Companies usually start with a six-week pilot: two weeks of launch and onboarding, then one four-week Challenge. A NestEgg Season is two to four Challenges a year. The Challenge format is patent pending.
- Founding insight
- Social gravity. People want to move for others more than for themselves, so NestEgg builds small teams instead of sending reminders.
- Company
- NestEgg Health, Dublin, Ireland. Founded by Donal Byrne, Peter O'Keeffe and Conor Byrne.
How it works
- Join or start a Nest. A team of five, with a name and a crest.
- Move your way. Any activity that raises your heart rate counts, any time, anywhere.
- Workouts sync from your wearable. Most heart rate wearables sync automatically through Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). Any other heart rate device works by screenshot upload.
- Earn Exercise Points. Points = minutes × intensity (from heart rate reserve) × a 25% bonus for strength workouts. A ProofShot photo adds 10%.
- Compete at your level. Each Egg's Level (1 to 15) sets a weekly target from 150 to 3,300 Exercise Points. Hitting it scores 100%, whatever the Level. Levels adjust at the end of each week.
- Help your Nest win. The Nest Score is the average weekly Level Score of the Nest's active Eggs, so one superstar can't carry a team and one quiet week won't sink it. A Health Pause removes an Egg from the average during illness, injury or travel.

Common questions
What is the business problem that NestEgg solves?
Loss of employee connection in the workplace resulting in reduced productivity, loyalty, and energy. NestEgg reduces human friction in the organization, making it easier to get work done. Employees feel more connected with their colleagues and their organization. Boosts and builds employee social, mental and physical health. Helps rebuild company sense of “togetherness”.
What do business leaders say is the ROI on NestEgg?
Leaders describe the return in culture, connection and energy. Asked what the real business benefit of NestEgg was, the CEO of Castlethorn said: “When people are happier, have more energy, feel better about themselves and where they work, it's simply easier to get work done.”
- “The results have been nothing short of amazing. It brought our culture back to life.” Julio Wong, CHRO, Artisant Lane.
- “It became a key social discussion point during the day.” Ronan Columb, Castlethorn.
- “You can see the people engaging with it immediately.” Michael Bartley, Director of Engineering, Alexion.
For the CFO, every Challenge ends with a report built from what Eggs actually did, workout by workout, not from a survey. It leads with five metrics: Activation Rate, Sustained Exercise Rate, WHO Activity Rate, Exercise Dose Change and Social Engagement. NestEgg does not publish a financial ROI figure. See the measured results and client stories.
What is the true difference in NestEgg compared to competing products?
A different north star. NestEgg is designed to build and sustain social connection and community in the workplace, through shared movement. Shared movement (any exercise, any time, any place) creates connection and community (Nests, the Flock Feed, a reason to show up), which delivers social, mental and physical health.
Compared to, say, a step challenge: step challenges have one advantage. It's easy to count steps. But that's where it stops. From the perspective of our mission, they measure the wrong thing, reward the people who were already moving, and lose everyone else once the leaderboard settles. Here is what NestEgg does instead.
- Effort, not steps. A step count only sees walking and running. NestEgg scores every workout from heart rate, so a swim, a spin class, a gym session or a game of padel all count, and how hard you worked matters more than how far you went.
- Everyone can win. In a step challenge, the people who were already active settle the leaderboard in week one. NestEgg gives every Egg a Level with their own weekly target. Hit yours and you score 100%, the same as the marathoner who hits theirs.
- A team, not a table. Eggs compete in Nests of five, and the Nest Score is the average of every member. One superstar can't carry the team, so the Nest pulls in the person who needs it most. People keep going because they don't want to let their Nest down.
- Connection is the point. A step count is a number on your own phone. In NestEgg, every workout can become a ProofShot in the Flock Feed: banter, encouragement and the odd bit of rivalry with the colleagues around you.
- Built to last. A Health Pause means illness or injury never drags a Nest down. Levels adjust every week, Challenges run across a Season, and we run the whole thing for you. So the habit outlasts the leaderboard.
The question changes from “do I feel like exercising today?” to “what is our Nest doing this week?” See Why NestEgg and How NestEgg compares.
What is a good alternative to a company step challenge?
NestEgg Health is designed as one. Instead of counting steps, it scores any heart rate raising activity, including strength work, and uses a 15 Level handicap so beginners and athletes contribute equally. Small teams and a shared feed keep people involved across four weeks.
How do you engage employees who don't usually exercise?
NestEgg relies on social pull. Eggs join a Nest of five and get their own weekly target, so less active people stay in because they don't want to let their Nest down, and hitting their own target counts as much as anyone else's. In NestEgg's leagues 81% of engaged Eggs were still active in week 4 (Evidence of Outcomes v1.6).
Does NestEgg work for frontline, multi-site and international teams?
Yes. Eggs take part wherever they are. H+K International ran a Challenge with 287 Eggs across 15 countries, and Artisant Lane ran Nests across sites in Texas and North Carolina.
How much work is it for HR?
Very little. You name one point person, who we interface with. They send the launch emails we write, and you approve our plan. We run sign up, Nest formation, onboarding, support, the weekly wrap ups, the Final Wrap film and the final report. See the pilot offer.
What does NestEgg cost?
The pilot is $50 per Egg, with a minimum entry of 100 Eggs, then you pay per Egg registered (lots of Eggs? call us). That covers a six-week pilot (two weeks of launch, then a four-week Challenge) run end to end by NestEgg.
What data does the employer see?
Employer reports may include names, Nests, Exercise Points, Levels, scores, rankings and workout counts. They never include heart rate data, date of birth, Health Pause reasons, device or location data, or workout photos (Terms and Privacy Policy v1.7, section 7A).
Is NestEgg a medical or health insurance product?
No. NestEgg is a community exercise program for the workplace, not a medical service. Its Health NestEgg model uses published research to show what sustained exercise is associated with, with its limitations stated.
